“Its wild coast, its imposing pine-woods, its rich and fertile country, the wet areas, the natural sheltered surroundings, its mediterranean bush, its spring water, its precious thermal waters, the mild hill country with towering cypresses and secular olive trees, its imposing mountain, its history rich in ruins of finds and monuments, its traditions, its people, their way of living, and the genuine products, make this harsh land a still reserved and fascinating island, a dreamt and in great demand place, and at the same time uncontaminated and untouched place which is waiting for you and which always welcomes you .........
This is Maremma country.........”
This typical Tuscan hilly landscape owns to a geographic area delimited at the north side by the headland of Piombino, (Cornia river), at the east one by the Oriental slope of “Colline Metallifere”and by the declivity of Amiata Mountain, at the south one by the headland of Orbetello and Burano lake (Ombrone river).
Maremma is delimited by this natural borderline, in a place including the sea, the plane, the mountain, sand dunes, marshes and woods. The very ancient history of this land, like many Etruscan settlemets testify, has always been linked to the territory harshness with its numerous woods and malarial marshes.
Thanks to this geographic conformation Maremma preservs its ancient connotations, with its wonderful medioeval villages, its natural oasis, its coasts, its people made of farmers, fishermen, woodmen, and “butteri”.
