Characteristic apartment converted during the renovation of a 13th century Franciscan convent. The convent was very important from the 1400's onwards, when it became a training center of eminent members of the Franciscan order. The spot is even tied to the miracle of Saint Francis (1229 a.d.) in which he freed a child who had been abducted by a wolf. The church and cloister, built from 1608 to 1634, are decorated with remarkable frescoes, including those about the miracle. In 1723 the convent housed 25 monks and its library had an impressive 1572 volumes.
In 1974 the convent was given up by the monks and restored, conserving the original architectural structure. The 25 apartments that make up the property were converted from the monks' ancient cells, and are therefore of small size. A well-tended garden, with a pool and tennis court, surrounds the convent. Inside the structure, one can admire the beautiful cloister with frescoed walls and an ancient well. The close town of Lugnano in Teverina is a small hamlet dating back to the 5th century. From the town of Amelia, just 10 km away, there is convenient train service to Rome (the train trip takes about 1 hour).
Distances: Lugnano in Teverina with shops of all kinds 500 metres away, Amelia (railway station with convenient daily connections to Rome) 10 km, the beautiful city of Orvieto 30 km away, Viterbo 30 km, Rome (airport) 90 km away.
At guests' disposal: shared garden, cloister, 1st floor terrace furnished with table and chairs, tennis court (synthetic turf) used free of charge and exclusively for guests of the convent, pool (25 x 12,5 m – minimum depth 0,7 m – maximum depth 4 m – open from 10:00 to 19:00 from 15/06 to 15/09 - in July and August the pool is open every day, while in June and September it is open Saturday and Sunday only.
Washing machine is located in a common room. Wi-fi internet acess available in guests' common room.
Extra services: Cleaning service available € 10,- / hour (to be paid on the spot).
